Gift Card Printer For Beautiful and Secure Custom Plastic Gift Cards

If you are a business owner and have been impressed with other businesses generating and selling huge numbers of plastic store cards during the holiday season, you are correct: custom plastic gift cards are an excellent marketing and sales tool. We will explore the superb advantages of plastic custom cards here and present ways to produce them in house using a gift card printer.

Advantages of custom plastic card printing

Plastic gift cards are an excellent way to get your brand name out into supermarkets and drugstores.

Given as a gift, plastic store branded cards will expand your brand virally.

Giving a gift card is an endorsement of your brand by the giver. And now the receiver is obligated to at least check your store out!

Even if the receiver does not like your brand, there is a chance that the card will not get redeemed. It has been estimated that 10% of all of them are never redeemed.

Because the cards are well designed and sturdy, they often find their place in visible areas such as living rooms, kitchens, and of course in people’s wallets and purses, further increasing your brand awareness.

Last but not least, there are no transaction charges when your store card gets swiped at your POS (point of sale) in the store.

How to print custom plastic cards

The plastic gift cards are produced using the same printing technology as the credit and debit cards. Their printing costs have been coming down in price recently and the cost of plastic printers is not much more than what regular paper printers used to cost just a decade ago.

Since the cards can only be used once, you will not need as many security features as the credit card printers or debit card printers offer. For instance, no holograms or smart cards need be included. Furthermore, a picture ID will not be needed.

So here is the minimal set of components of a custom plastic printer system:

  • Single sided plastic card printer that can encode mag stripe on the back
  • Blank plastic cards that have mag stripe built in
  • Plastic card design software (which usually comes with the printer) that sends the prints over to the printer

That is all! Granted, there are offline and online printing services which will allow you to design custom cards and print them but clearly, they do not offer as much flexibility than designing an in-house plastic card printing system offers.
