If you have ever visited an online poker site and attempted to sign-up or make a deposit, you may well have been asked to enter a bonus code. But what exactly is a bonus code, and do you really have to enter one every time you make a deposit?
To answer the first question, a deposit code simply enables you to get your hands on a certain deposit bonus that may be offered by the room. In some cases, if you do not enter a bonus code, you will not be able to receive a bonus from the poker room.
However, even though you are asked to enter a bonus code, it does not always mean that you will be unable to receive a bonus if you do not enter one. A lot of the time, you will still receive the bonus even if you do not use a bonus code, so there is no need to fret if you can’t manage to find a bonus code to sign up with!
So why ask for a bonus code then?
Typically, poker rooms will offer a bonus code box for the occasions where they run seasonal bonuses which will change throughout the year. The poker room may then decide to issue out unique bonus codes (usually displayed on the poker room’s homepage) so that each player will be able to receive the special bonus for that particular time of the year.
However, there are not a lot of poker rooms that use seasonal bonuses, but they offer the bonus code option just in case they decide to do so in the future. So in a way, the bonus code box is pretty much there just in case they decide to use it for something in the future.
So should you use poker bonus codes?
If you have a bonus code at hand, it is best to use one. I wouldn’t worry too much or go out of your way to find a bonus code every time you sign-up to an online poker room, but if you have one then go ahead and use it. I know how annoying it can be to have to think that you have to stop in the middle of signing up to look for a bonus code, when the fact of the matter is that it may not even make a difference any way.
